WWE Raw Results: News And Notes After The Undertaker Returns To Confront Shawn Michaels

WWE Raw’s viewership was expectedly down from last week’s traditionally high SummerSlam fallout number and that trend figures to continue.

Raw will get a taste of what should be a long and arduous fall, filled with annual-low viewership numbers as it goes head-to-head with a high-profile college football game between top-25 teams the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Florida State Seminoles. The good news is next week there will be no Monday night competition from college football. The bad news is there will be Monday night competition from the NFL for the rest of the year.

Opening Segment featuring The Shield’s Pull-Apart Brawl with Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler (YouTube Views: 64,533)

Whether he was palling around with heels or not, nothing was going to stop Columbus, OH. from chanting “get these hands!”

Bruan Strowman’s heel voice sounds like his babyface voice, but if it came down with strep throat.

After the imposing, deep-voiced promos from Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler sounded more like Scrappy Doo than ever.

Bella Twins def. The Riott Squad (YouTube Views: 51,444)

The Bellas introduction could have double as a 30-second radio ad for Total Divas.

The male-dominated pro wrestling media loves to cover when the Bellas get booed, but as evidenced by tonight’s reaction, they do very well with women, girls and crowds who have lives beyond pro wrestling.

The Bellas are taking trailblazing to the next level by becoming the first female free agents of the current brand split era.

Chad Gable and Bobby Roode def. The Ascension (YouTube Views: 7,228)

If Chad Gable was revealed to be Kurt Angle’s illegitimate son as many assumed, his tag team with Bobby Roode could be called the Glorious Bastards.

Chad Gable and Bobby Roode feel like they were released from an emergency glass case to save the Raw tag team division.

Last week, the Ascension lost to one man. This week, they lost to one and a half men. But that half-man had the talent of three men.

Alexa Bliss (w/Alicia Fox) def. Natalya (w/Ronda Rousey) (YouTube Views: 15,084)

Alexa Bliss showed a questionable strategy for selling her Ohio commemorative merchandise by running down her hometown.

If Natalya doesn’t know how to get out of an armbar, then what the heck have her and Ronda Rousey been working on in their training sessions all these years?

Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler def. The B-Team for the Raw Tag Team Championships (YouTube Views: 10,024)

Jojo expressed frustration in announcing The Revival for a second time as if they didn’t just get ambushed by Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre minutes beforehand.

The B-Team is quite popular with live crowds when they’re major underdogs as opposed to competing against other low-ranking tag teams.

Watching the B-Team in this match in Ohio had to feel like watching a Browns game where fans were just waiting to see how the B-Team would lose.

The Authors of Pain (w/Drake Maverick) def. Local Competitors

Apparently, The Shield didn’t file their paperwork on time for the copyright on a three-person stable in riot gear.

Drake Maverick’s flamboyant suits don’t quite fit the theme of AOP, but the same can be said about Drake Maverick wearing a tactical vest.

Shawn Michaels Segment featuring The Undertaker’s Return

Shawn Michaels never technically turned babyface from when he superkicked Daniel Bryan and he still appeared to be working heel be shilling merchandise and picking Triple H over The Undertaker.

Michael Cole said “nobody in the entire world” was expecting The Undertaker to appear on Raw, which is pretty much implying that nobody in the entire world has the internet.

Fans booed when Shawn Michaels mentioned the end of the streak, but cheered when the Undertaker mentioned he ended Shawn Michaels’ career.

Bayley and Sasha Banks def. Dana Brooke and Ember Moon

Bayley and Sasha Banks vs. a heel Bellas duo wouldn’t be the worst feud for a women’s tag team championship.

If Dana Brooke wants to blame somebody for her shortcomings, it shouldn’t be Titus Worldwide, it should be the WWE Performance Center.

Bobby Lashley’s Meditation Intervention with Jinder Mahal

There’s somebody on the WWE creative team who insists Bobby Lashley is best used in a comedy setting and that person needs to be fired.

I’m guessing the Bobby Lashley “My Man!” t-shirts are not going to fly off the shelves at WWEShop.com when they’re inevitably released.

Kevin Owens is both a sore loser and a terrible quitter.

Braun Strowman def. Finn Balor

This main event is Finn Balor’s punishment for his buddies successfully pulling off the All In pay-per-view.

Finn Balor was surprisingly competitive against heel Braun Strowman, who I figured would be even more of a monster.

Braun Strowman’s feud with Roman Reigns and/or The Shield would be nothing without sirens.

The Undertaker made a surprise return to WWE Raw to confront Shawn Michaels, who had made his advertised return to Raw moments prior. After Michaels picked his longtime friend Triple H to defeat Undertaker at Super Show-Down, The Deadman resurfaced to confront Shawn Michaels in a segment that teased a possible in-ring return for HBK.
