Spalletti: 'Inter waiting years for this'
Luciano Spalletti said Inter “have been waiting years for this match and must be prepared to give everything for the result” against Tottenham Hotspur.
It kicks off on Wednesday at Wembley at 20.00 GMT and the Nerazzurri need only a point to qualify for the Round of 16.
“The enthusiasm that Champions League qualification can give you is unique. We’ve been waiting years for this match and must be prepared to give everything for the result,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“Everyone knows the prestige of playing at Wembley, as it is one of the monuments of football. We’re accustomed to San Siro and 65,000 fans, so we’re better prepared than most to play here.
“If someone gets over-awed by the occasion or the venue, then you’d have to wonder whether they were suited to Inter or not. The pitch is not in good condition, but it’s as much of a problem for Tottenham as it is for us. There are no alibis.”
Spurs had started the Champions League campaign badly, but have rediscovered their confidence and beat Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
“I’d compare Tottenham’s strength on the field to that of Barcelona. We knew from the day of the draw that we’d have to knock out one of the biggest clubs in Europe. We have this opportunity and it is what we wanted.
“Inter have our identity by now and there’s no need to change the way we play for this match. I hope it is a night worthy of Inter. I feel we have improved a great deal in terms of concentration for the full 90 minutes and there are individuals who can change the game.”
