Spalletti: 'Inter had a penalty too!'
Luciano Spalletti came back to the media centre after his initial interviews to insist Inter were also denied a penalty against Roma.
The Coach initially said he had not witnessed the incidents in the 2-2 draw, even though Sky Sport Italia were showing him the clips on the monitors.
After a Press conference, Spalletti insisted on going back to the Sky post to speak to them again about the lack of VAR intervention.
“Seeing as you want to create so much chaos around the refereeing, which in my view was absolutely fair, then let’s really get into it,” said the Coach.
He was shown the Danilo D’Ambrosio trip on Nicolò Zaniolo just inside the penalty area, an incident that was 30 seconds before the opening Inter goal.
“It’s not much contact, but clearly it should be seen again with the VAR.”
He was then shown the shoulder-to-shoulder contact between Mauro Icardi and Kostas Manolas at the 85th minute.
“It’s not a shoulder, it’s a BARGE. Icardi will get to that ball and without the shove, he will score. If Manolas doesn’t knock him off the trajectory of the ball, Icardi will get that shot away.
“It was a fair draw between two teams who fought to the end for the victory, so let us praise these teams for an open game played in sparkling form.
“Gianluca Rocchi refereed well and there was one incident for each side. You can’t say one is definitely worthy of VAR and the other isn’t.
“Now we have VAR, an extra instrument that the referees can use and who before had to finish their careers early can now have a year or two extra in the booth, thanks to their experience.”
