‘Roma lack determination’
Eusebio Di Francesco admits his Roma side are missing “determination”, but warns “it’s not something you can buy at the supermarket”.
The Giallorossi lost 1-0 at Udinese at the weekend to continue their poor start to the season, and they face a crunch tie with Real Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow.
“What’s missing is that determination,” Di Francesco explained in his pre-match Press conference.
“It’s something which is often written about, but it’s not something you can buy at the supermarket.
“It’s that desire to win games with the right ruthlessness, where you play the right way both offensively and defensively.
“We prepared for a game which I considered to be the most important, so losing it really annoyed me.
“We have a lack of belief in what we’re doing, we need to play with greater ruthlessness. We’re working with the lads and we want to use this important game to prove that we’re not what we showed in Udine.
There are inevitably suggestions that Di Francesco’s job is under threat…
“If you want to talk about the team I’ll do it, I won’t speak about myself because I’ve always felt the trust of the club.
“We’re in a good position in the Champions League and we can make it an excellent one with a great performance tomorrow.”
Real Madrid are also in crisis, as they sit sixth in La Liga following a 3-0 thrashing at Eibar on Saturday.
“We’re two struggling teams who face each other on equal terms,” Di Francesco confirmed.
“If Roma are already playing with nine points in the group I think that’s a very positive thing.
“In my opinion they’re very similar to last year in terms of their movement and their characteristics.
“The difference is on a psychological level, but they were in good form before [Saturday].”
