Mazzarri: 'Toro never make it easy'

Walter Mazzarri made his return to the Torino bench after a health scare, but said the 2-1 win over Genoa did little to settle his nerves.

The Coach spent the last week in a clinic undergoing tests and was given the all-clear to be on the touchline for this unexpectedly dramatic match.

“We had a good game, but absurdly we played better when Genoa still had 11 men on the field,” Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We fought back and turned it around, but wasted so many scoring opportunities. At times, we do things that are just incomprehensible and must learn some preventative marking. The Genoa goal really was avoidable.

“I didn’t like the second half performance, as we got too chaotic. We’ve got to learn to be more balanced and not throw everything forward to leave gaps on the counter. Unfortunately, we don’t do things the easy way, we’ve always got to be on edge.”

Mazzarri was urged by the Sky Sport Italia hosts to look after his health, which means giving up smoking. Again.

“It’s not true that (famously chain-smoking ex-Inter President Massimo) Moratti started me up again, the two just coincided. He was very nice about it and always offered to not smoke in my presence, but we were up until 2am talking, so I’d tell him to go ahead…

“I am trying to stop. At the moment, I have cut down significantly.”
