HT: Chievo frustrate Napoli
Napoli have struggled in the first half against Chievo, as Jose Callejon and Joel Obi had the best scoring opportunities.
The Partenopei needed a win to maintain the six-point gap from leaders Juventus and three-point lead over Inter, as both their rivals won on Saturday. Adam Ounas and Amadou Diawara were given rare starts, but Chievo made their debut under third Coach of the season Domenico Di Carlo after Lorenzo D’Anna was fired and Giampiero Ventura abruptly resigned just four games into his reign. Sergio Pellissier was thrown into the starting XI, but Nicola Rigoni, Emanuele Giaccherini, Pawel Jaroszynski, Manuel Pucciarelli and Nenad Tomovic were injured.
Chievo had beaten Napoli only once, in September 2014, in their last 10 Serie A meetings, managing two draws and seven defeats, home and away.
Jose Callejon’s volley whistled wide, but Joel Obi had a double chance when his first attempt was charged down by Kevin Malcuit and the follow-up hit the side-netting.
Callejon had penalty appeals waved away for a shoulder barge from Obi, but the Spaniard should’ve done better on the counter just before half-time when firing straight at Stefano Sorrentino.
